In recent years, hacks and leaks have increased at an extraordinary rate. Although most data breaches still occur within the healthcare sector, the utilities sector remains one of the biggest culprits as well. The TalkTalk data hack last year is still fresh in our minds, and we’re assisting people making claims off the back of that particular hack.<\/p>\n

Another one was the 2015 British Gas leak where the email addresses and passwords of 2,200 of its customers appeared online.
\n
\nBritish Gas were confident that the breach did not come from within the company, and said that no payment data had been compromised. All 2,200 customers were reportedly informed of the breach.<\/p>\n

The email that was sent assured customers that: <\/p>\n

“There has been no breach of our secure data storage systems, so none of your payment data, such as bank account or card details, have been at risk. As you’d expect, we encrypt and store this information securely.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This was the third data breach in a week that a British Company had suffered. M&S customer’s personal details were posted online along with TalkTalk facing their huge cyberattack that leaked customer account details online, as we mentioned earlier.<\/p>\n

It was a pretty dark week in the UK when three separate breaches all occurred so close to each other and it was a real cause for concern. Most people find it hard to trust their data being handled securely by third parties, and incidents like the ones covered in this post hardly ease any worries that people may have.<\/p>\n
