The British Airways Data Event Group Litigation was formally established after a hearing that took place on 4th<\/sup> October 2019.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this action – which is a formal Group Litigation Order (GLO) – is for the common issues for victims affected by the 2018 BA cyber-attacks to be argued as one. There\u2019s little point in arguing each individual case when the issues are so common, so if we can get the common issues resolved, it then becomes a matter of individual compensation.<\/p>\n

We know that it can be somewhat confusing to know where to turn when you need legal advice and representation. Here\u2019s some advice about the official GLO that may be useful for you.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The official British Airways Data Event Group Litigation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There\u2019s only one official British Airways Data Event Group Litigation that\u2019s proceeding in The Queen\u2019s Bench Division of the High Court of Justice (Media and Communications List). The managing Judge is Mr Justice Warby, and he was the Judge that gave the go ahead for the GLO in early October.<\/p>\n

We have been fighting for the rights of BA data breach victims since news of the breaches came to light, representing thousands of people on a No Win, No Fee basis.<\/p>\n

The aim of the GLO is to resolve the common issues that most claimants will have. The key question to be answered is whether the data event entitles victims to compensation in accordance with the law of England and Wales. If the answer is yes, the GLO can then become about settling individual claims.<\/p>\n

What happens now?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Now that the British Airways Data Event Group Litigation has been formally established, the court has imposed a cut-off date in January 2021.<\/p>\n

Between now and then, we need to make sure that people know that they can join the BA Group Action<\/strong> and understand what steps they need to take to make sure that they\u2019re ready before time runs out.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a great deal more to it than just registering your information with a law firm. You need to make sure that your lawyers have all the correct evidence and documentation in advance of the deadline, and new requirements may occur between now and then as well. We also need to make sure that you are a part of the funding and insurance agreements we have in place to make sure that you can be a part of the action and ensure that you have protection if something goes wrong.<\/p>\n
