Malicious software had reportedly been inserted into the payment processing section of the website, and this had led to data being exposed.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time this kind of breach has taken place either, which may be seen as a damning indictment.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>About the Missoma data breach<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We don\u2019t yet know how many people have been affected by the Missoma data breach, although the company is suggesting that it\u2019s only a small number.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that payment card data as well as perhaps personal contact information that will have gone through the compromised payment process system has been exposed. When it comes to long card numbers, expiration dates and CVV numbers &#8211; especially when combined with names and addresses &#8211; victims can be at an immediate risk of fraud and theft. It may be the case that incidents have already taken place that may be linked to the cyberattack as well.<\/p>\n<p>Customers are reportedly being contacted about the breach following an investigation, and action taken to secure their systems. The ICO (Information Commissioner\u2019s Office) will no doubt need to be made aware of the situation, and it could be that a significant fine is issued when you consider similar events like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.databreachlawyers.co.uk\/british-airways-data-breach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>British Airways data breach.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>A worrying incident<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One of the most worrying aspects about the Missoma data breach is the fact that we have seen a number of very similar breaches like this take place before. In fact, there have been recent events just like this one.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>BA Group Action<\/strong> that we\u2019re on the Steering Committee for stemmed from a parallel incident, as did the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.databreachlawyers.co.uk\/news\/start-your-ticketmaster-data-breach-claim-today\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ticketmaster cyberattack<\/strong><\/a> amongst others. We would have expected that other companies would have learned from those incidents and made sure that they couldn\u2019t be hacked in the same way, or in a similar way. And with the GDPR that came into force in 2018, there\u2019s simply no excuse.
