"An NHS Trust in Blackpool was fined £185,000 when confidential details of staff members were posted online.
On top of the breach itself, The Trust also failed to take proper action on the data breach for almost a year."
The information that was posted online by The Trust included names, birth dates, and national insurance numbers, along with other information like sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and pay scales. The information that was posted was of 6,574 both past and present employees.
The information was meant to be part of equality and metrics that was volunteered by staff, but the data was supposed to remain confidential for obvious reasons.
Staff details were publicly available on The Trust’s website for 11 months, according to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). They found that the information was accessed “at least 59 times by 20 visitors” and has been downloaded by “persons unknown on several occasions”.
Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have a duty to inform you of the data breach, and therefore you should have already been contacted, or be in the process of being contacted, to tell you if your information has been leaked, and what information it is.
If you have been the victim of a data breach then you have a right to claim. Suffering a data breach can lead to fraud, and for information to be used for other types of crime. It can also be very distressing to have your personal data accessed because of the sensitivity of the information that someone unauthorised has access to.
We are taking cases on for anyone affected by the Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust data breach.
This is not the first time that we have had to take on cases for serious breaches in the public sector, and it will unfortunately probably not be the last.
Here at the Data Breach Lawyers, we are at the heart of data breaches and have worked on many singular and large group action claims, especially those involving the healthcare profession.
We are currently working on data breaches like the 56 Dean Street incident and are still taking on cases for those who have been affected by the breach. Other cases we are currently dealing with include the recent case where the out of hours nurse had her purse stolen from the out of hours vehicles that contained a diary of patient’s personal information.
If you have been affected by a data breach then we can help. We urge you to contact us if you have been affected. If we think you have a claim we can help get you the compensation that you deserve.
